Housing Developments:
Benhill Estate, Sutton.
This nine month project started on the Benhill Estate in June 2007. We worked on four blocks of flats, either four or five storeys high, which needed repair and renovation. These buildings are part of a big housing scheme for Sutton Housing Partnership, part of Sutton District Council.
Using a fixed, independent scaffold, because of the height, we first stripped off all the old asbestos cladding. As these buildings were built in 1960's without insulation, we used Rockwall products which provides insulation to modern standards and then installed a waterproof and weatherproof membrane.
Finally we externally cladded the buildings in Marley fibre cement products. As this wood effect cladding is not only zero fire rated but also weather and termite proof, it is almost maintenance free for the council. All the rainwater goods were Marley Alutech in raw aluminium. On this project, we worked in association with Dorwin Ltd of Alton, Hampshire. who provided the doors and windows.
As you can see from the before and after pictures, the products we used have not only satisfied safety, maintenance and environmental issues, but also completely modernised the look of the flats for the tenants.
During the renovations, our work was conducted with the approval of the Tenant Liason Management Scheme and we attended regular monthly meetings to assure their approval as the work progressed. In fact they were so appreciative of our services and quality of workmanship, that they have requested that we are involved in any future work.
Because R.C.Grant and Sons have a licence to remove asbestos and a sister company the Fascia Place, to provide materials as the job progressed, we were able to complete this project without any delays.
To date, this is one of the biggest projects we have undertaken, with a value of £750K.We worked in co-operation with other providers, the Council and the tenants. It was completed on time and to the satisfaction of all parties.
